Thousands of farmers have reached the national capital on their tractor-trolleys and other vehicles, responding to the “Delhi Chalo" call against the agri-marketing laws enacted at the Centre in September.
Shouting slogans, singing songs and carrying flags in reds, greens and blues, about 400 farmers from various groups and states on Satuuday gathered at north Delhi's Burari ground where the government had allowed them to hold a peaceful protest against the new farm laws.
While thousands of farmers sat it out at various border points into Delhi for the third consecutive day, many made their way into the national capital and gathered at the Nirankari ground, one of the largest in the city.
Braving water cannons, tear gas and winter chill, as thousands of farmers moved towards the national capital as part of their “Dilli Chalo” protest against the Centre’s new farm laws, a dhaba along the highway came forward to help them.
The famous Amrik Sukhdev dhaba in Haryana’s Murthal opened its doors to the protesting farmers and oragnised a langar sewa for them for three days.
The kind gesture won many hearts on social media with people praised the dhaba owners and management for coming to the aid of protesting farmers.
A video of a protester marching towards Delhi and lecturing a Haryana police officer in English on why farmers are protesting is doing the rounds on social media.
The person captured on video is Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, who has emerged as an important voice of the agitation against the Narendra Modi government's farm laws, ever since they were passed in September this year.
Soon after the sit-in protests against the farm laws began, Sidhu became involved with one of the most important protest sites at Shambhu Barrier in Punjab's Patiala district, that adjoins Ambala district in Haryana.
