Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya chairs high level meet over Heatwave crisis

Mansukh Mandaviya: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high-level meet on public health preparedness amid prevailing heatwave catastrophe. The experts that attended the meeting were Niti Aayog member (Health) Dr V K Paul, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Dr Rajiv Bahl and India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 11:30 am. The health minister has said that a team of officers will be dispatched to the states experiencing heatwave in order to help combat the situation. “Arrangements will be made at every level for the protection of common life. We want to ensure no one dies of a heat stroke,” Mansukh Mandaviya said.

States to be assisted by team of experts

A five-member team, comprising senior officials from the Health Ministry, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), will be sent visit states worst-affected by heatwave conditions. The severe heatwave conditions in various states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana among others will be provided expert assistance by the central government. “In states where a heatwave is prevailing and heatwave incidents have occurred, a team consisting of officials from Disaster Management, IMD and Union Health Ministry will be sent to assist the state government. Tomorrow I will hold a meeting via video conferencing with disaster management officials and ministers of eastern states like Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Telangana, Jharkhand and Bihar where heat wave conditions are prevailing. I have also instructed ICMR to prepare well in advance to prevent heatstroke deaths,” Mansukh Mandaviya said.

Crises Continues to fold

 Deaths caused by heat stroke have been reported from several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha. In Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia alone 68 people are suspected to have died of amid heatwave crises. A virtual meeting comprising of 21 health ministers of states where heatwave conditions are prevailing will be presided by Mansukh Mandaviya tomorrow. The health minister has instructed officials of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to prevent heatstroke deaths. The IMD has reported that during the next two days ” abatement of heatwave conditions” will happen over north, central and eastern regions of the country.
