The navies of India and Bangladesh held a mega military exercise in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday in sync with their growing operational coordination, officials said.
In this edition of Exercise Bongosagar, ships from both navies participated in surface warfare drills, seamanship evolutions and helicopter operations.
Exercise Bongosagar, whose first edition was held in 2019, is aimed at developing inter-operability and joint operational skills through the conduct of a wide spectrum of maritime exercises and operations.
The Exercise Bongosagar will then be followed by the third edition of IN-BN Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT).
This joint exercise will take place in the Northern Bay of Bengal from October 4-5. During the CORPAT exercise, India and Bangladesh's navy will patrol along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
Last month, Indian Navy also carried out a two-day mega exercise in the Indian Ocean Region with the Australian Navy that featured a range of complex naval manoeuvres, anti-aircraft drills and helicopter operations.
