S Jaishankar: Union Minister S Jaishankar said in a YouTube interview that he gets angry when Indian missions are attacked and diplomats harassed by separatist elements overseas.
The External Affairs Minister was speaking on “The Ranvir Show” and was alluding to the attacks on the Indian High Commission in London this March.
“I had actually landed from a plane when I saw this man climbing up the Indian High Commission in London and was trying to pull down the flag… It got under my skin,” said the Minister in the podcast.
He continued, “When people try to score points… personal points I just shrug it. When ‘I’ gets pushed, and that I is not me, but 'India'… That sense that you are not given respect and people are condescending, some times ambush you….”
No different standards of security
In an earlier event, Jaishankar criticised the different standards of security used by some countries. He was referring to the UK where the Indian flag was pulled down by a Khalistani separatist publicly. Jaishankar accused the United Kingdom of not providing adequate security to the diplomats of the Indian Mission.

“On the flag and the security of the high commission, in this particular case in the UK – whenever any country sends an embassy anywhere abroad, it is the obligation of the receiving country to provide security for a diplomat to do his work,” he said at an event hosted by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya.
