Legendary playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Friday. He was 74.
He passed away on September 25 at 1:04pm. Common people as well as members of the film fraternity had got together to organize mass prayers hoping for his recovery while he was in the hospital.
As news of his death broke, music maestro AR Rahman, singer Lata Mangeshkar mourned his loss. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said with the demise of SP Balasubrahmanyam, our cultural world is a lot poorer.
SP Balasubrahmanyam’s son SP Charan, wife Savitri, sister Shailaja and daughter Pallavi have been in the hospital since morning. While Kamal Haasan visited SPB at the hospital yesterday, Bharathiraja visted him this morning. Police officials have barricade the area as fans are turning out in large numbers.
SP Balasubrahmanyam’s untimely demise has come as a huge shock for the South film industry. Many celebrities and colleagues in the industry took to Twitter to morn his death.
