Sharing his arrival on social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Reached Calgary, Canada to participate in the G7 Summit. I will be interacting with various global leaders and share India’s perspectives on key global issues. Will also highlight priorities of the Global South.”

The summit, which brings together the world’s top economies — France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union — is expected to host key discussions on energy security, global conflict resolution, economic collaboration, and emerging technologies.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi’s visit comes at the invitation of Canadian PM Mark Carney. “PM Modi will join the G7 discussions on the future of energy security in a rapidly changing world, focusing on diversification, technology, infrastructure, and investment. He is also scheduled to hold several important bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit,” the ministry said.
This visit is also being viewed through the lens of India–Canada relations, which have seen tension in recent months. PM Modi’s acceptance of the G7 invite, extended personally by the Canadian PM, may signal an opportunity to ease diplomatic strains and open new avenues for dialogue.
The G7 Summit is particularly significant for India this year, as the country continues to assert itself as a rising global power.
