PM to holds Covid-19 review meeting with chief ministers today via video conferencing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday interacted via video conferencing with chief ministers of states that are witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases to review the COVID-19 situation.

The leaders attending the meeting include Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

During the interaction, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that the high severity of the third wave in the national capital is due to many factors, pollution being an important one, sources said.

Kejriwal informed PM Modi that Delhi saw 8,600 Covid-19 cases as of November 10 in the third peak and ever since, the cases and the positivity rate have been steadily decreasing.

The chief minister sought the prime minister’s intervention to get rid of the pollution caused by stubble-burning in adjoining states, especially in view of the recent bio-decomposer technique, sources said.

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 caseload has gone past 91 lakh with 37,975 coronavirus infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries surged to 86,04,955, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 91,77,841, while the death toll climbed to 1,34,218 with 480 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
