Varanasi’s ‘Dom Raja’ Jagdish Chaudhary passes away, PM Modi expresses deep sorrow

The Dom Raja of Varanasi, Jagdish Chaudhary, died at the age of 55 on Tuesday (August 25).

According to the family, his health suddenly deteriorated in the morning. He was then hospitalized in a hurry. He died shortly after being admitted. According to the information Domraja was troubled by the problem of a thigh wound for a long time.

The Dom Raja of Kashi, as the head of his Chaudhary clan, which considers itself the most exalted among the Dom sub-castes, is considered the chief keeper of the fire burning uninterrupted at Varanasi`s Manikarnika and Harishchandra ghats, which are reserved for cremation.

Chowdhary was one of the proposers of Modi’s candidature from the constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the death of Dom Raja Jagdish Chaudhary by tweeting.

He tweeted, ‘Very saddened by the demise of Domraja Jagdish Chaudhary Ji of Varanasi. He settled in the culture of Kashi and was the conductor of the Sanatan tradition there. He worked for social harmony throughout his life. May God give peace to his soul and give the family the strength to bear this suffering.

CM Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to Domraja on his death. CM Yogi said in the tweet, ‘The death of Kashivasi Domraja Shri Jagdish Chaudhary Ji, a symbol of the spirit of social harmony, is very sad.
