Arpita Mukherjee: Arpita Mukherjee was a small-time actor who usually played side roles in some Indian movies. The rise of her career has not been meteoric. Arpita has recently been in the news for the past few weeks after she got arrested on Friday last week in Kolkata by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
ED raided her home last week at her posh South Kolkata apartment and seized a total of Rs 280 million (more than 3.5 million USD). It was suspected to be proceeds of kickbacks in the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) Recruitment scam. Till now, the ED has seized cash, jewellery worth $6.2 Million, and watches.

The actor is famous for being close to the Trinamool Congress party leader and former state minister Partha Chatterjee who is also the co-accused in the case.
Who is Arpita Mukherjee?
As per the report, Mukherjee has had a mediocre rise in the past few years of her career. Her childhood was mostly spent in a middle-class neighbourhood of Belgharia in North 24 Parganas and later she moved to a posh Tollywood area in Kolkata wherein she stayed in an apartment in Diamond city – an upscale high-rise apartment in South Kolkata. Arpita claims to be an actor and a model. She initiated her career back in 2004 and after a period of struggle, she got a small role in the Bengali film ‘Mama Bhagne’ in 2010. “She has acted in three films I produced, but I haven’t kept in touch with her. Twelve years later, I am hearing about her and that too in the news,” said film director and producer Anup Sengupta.
Arpita not a part of TMC
The moment she got arrested the members of TMC denied the fact that she is connected to TMC. Kunal Gosh, general secretary of TMC has denied all the links with her saying “I want to reiterate (that) Arpita Mukherjee has no links with the TMC; she is not a party member. The party has nothing to do with her or the money recovered from her house. Many activists and people from various walks of life share stages at Trinamool Congress programmes but that don’t mean they are a part of TMC,” he told the media Sunday.

On the other hand, the opposition leader BJP Suvendu Adhikari shared old pictures of Arpita Mukerjee sharing the stage with Chatterjee and WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from an earlier Durga Puja event. Adhikari also shared another image of Arpita that he claims is from a TMC event held on July 21.
However, Mukherjee denied her link with Partha Chaterjee during the investigation.
