Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leader and former finance minister of India Late Arun Jaitley died on August 24 in 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister of India Amit Shah paid tribute to the leader on his first death anniversary.
Jaitley first became a Cabinet minister in the government of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000. He then went on to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from June 2009.
Arun Jaitley was born to Maharaj Kishen Jaitley and Ratan Prabha Jaitley on December 28, 1952. Former Finance minister Arun Jaitley was the youngest of three children.
Since 1987, Jaitley had been practising law in the Supreme Court of India and several High Courts in India. In January 1990, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court. He was a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India.
In 1974, Jaitley entered politics by contesting an election at college. He won the post of president of the student's union in the University of Delhi.
He was appointed the finance minister in the first term of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government in 2014. He opted out of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections citing health reasons.

Meanwhile, several other politicians such as Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways VK Singh, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, MP BY Raghavendra paid respect to the leader.

In a tweet today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh said that Jaitley's demise "left a void which is difficult to fill".
