Viral Video: A video of C. Indumati, the district magistrate of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, is doing rounds on social media. In the 46-second video, which is reportedly from a recent inspection of the DUDA office, DM Indumati is seen slapping a man who allegedly pushed her during a surprise visit.

The video, the authenticity of which is yet to be ascertained by NBT Online, shows a scene full of tension. In the video, DM Indumati is red with anger, using harsh words for the man, calling him a "scoundrel," and questioning what had emboldened him to push her. Seemingly, further angry, she reacts in the form of slapping the person. The incident happened in a chaotic scene where people who were present at the DUDA office were said to be taken aback by her sudden appearance.
DM Indumati has been actively carrying out surprise inspections across various offices, including the office of DUDA, the sub-registrar office, and Sadar Nagar Palika. The surprise inspections are part of her effort to bring in transparency and efficiency in the district's administrative machinery. During her visit to the DUDA office recently, because of the sudden raid, the staff and the visiting public were found in a confused and panicked state, owing to which the DM got inadvertently pushed by an outsider.
While this act by DM Indumati has been subject to criticism, it underlines the pressures and challenges officials face in order to maintain decorum and accountability. The viral video and subsequent reactions underline how continuous the level of scrutiny and expectations from public servants really is in their professional conduct.
