Viral Video: She sat silently on the cold roadside, too weak to speak, too frail to move, left behind by her own family. In the dead of night, an e-rickshaw stopped near a temple in Ayodhya, and what unfolded next was captured in chilling clarity.
A woman discarded like she meant nothing. As the CCTV footage surfaced online, it didn’t just expose the act; it shattered hearts and sparked a nationwide outcry. The viral video is now at the centre of growing public outrage.
CCTV footage uploaded by Times Now shows a shocking scene in Kishun Daspur’s Ayodhya streets late at night. The clip shows a family loading an unconscious elderly woman into an e-rickshaw under dim street lights. Then the family abandons her beside a deserted road without offering any help or explanation to passersby. This viral video sparks outrage because elders deserve care and respect from their kin.
Sadly, many families today neglect ageing relatives rather than support them through their vulnerable years. Moreover, abandoning an elder in the dark shows deep inhumanity and breaks moral and social bonds. Witnesses felt sorrow and anger when they watched the elderly woman lying helpless on the road.
Authorities and the public condemned the act for violating basic human duties toward senior relatives. Furthermore, this incident highlights the growing crisis of elder neglect seen across various regions in India. Social media users widely shared reactions and demanded stricter laws to prevent similar heartless abandonments.
Around 2 AM, an e-rickshaw pulled up near Darshan Nagar Medical College in Ayodhya. Two women and a man stepped out and helped the elderly woman lie down on the roadside. They covered her with a thin blanket before quickly boarding their vehicle and driving away. The empty road remained dark and silent for hours, with no one noticing her vulnerable state.
Locals discovered her lying helpless at about ten AM and immediately alerted the Darshan Nagar police. Officers reached the spot swiftly and rushed her unconscious body to the trauma centre at the college.
Police reviewed CCTV footage and recognised the e-rickshaw, but they could not clearly identify the individuals. They then issued an urgent appeal on social media to locate the woman’s family or relatives. Meanwhile, officers and hospital staff worked together to treat the woman’s visible neck wound and frail condition.
Doctors suspected the injury stemmed from an untreated cancerous growth that severely weakened her health. The police confirmed they acted purely on humanitarian grounds by saving her life first and foremost. Law enforcement also registered a formal case of elder abandonment against unknown family members.
The clip triggered widespread condemnation as citizens questioned common social values toward elder care. Many compared this case to previous heartless abandons reported in Uttar Pradesh and other Indian states. Citizens took to Instagram and Twitter to share grief and demand swift legal action against the family.
Local activists organised an online petition calling for stricter enforcement of elder protection laws in India. Several NGOs urged authorities to launch awareness campaigns highlighting senior citizens’ rights and family responsibilities. Public leaders promised to propose amendments to increase penalties for abandoning vulnerable elders on public roads.
Readers must reflect on our duty toward senior citizens and urge authorities to strengthen legal measures against such elder neglect and abandonment incidents, ensuring no elderly person endures cruelty again.
