25-year-old Mohamed Ashik came across 81-year-old Merlin, who had previously left for India after getting married. “At a certain point, she lost everyone, all of her loved ones passed away one by one. She is all alone now,” Ashik said. Merlin said, “So I have eat for myself. I must fill my stomach na, who will give me?” Ashik claimed that Merlin preferred her current residence and didn't want to move into an assisted living facility. When Ashik gave Merlin a saree, she was overjoyed. When he told her that he didn’t want her to beg, Merlin said, “If you don’t want me to beg, then how can I eat for my stomach?”

Ashik's Agreement to Transform Merlin's Life

Ashik requested the assistance of Merlin and promised to compensate her for each video they produced to teach English. "I have an agreement with Merlin to help me make videos, and in exchange, I pay her back with any sum that I can afford," he declared. This is to nudge her towards starting a business and away from begging. For Merlin's English lessons, Ashik created the Instagram account @englishwithmerlin. It's interesting that several of her pupils saw Merlin's films and came to visit her. They even persuaded her to relocate into an assisted living facility.
