A video has allegedly surfaced on social media showing an Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation staff member brutally assaulting a 75-year-old woman inside a moving train. The viral clip, which has been widely shared across X, Instagram and WhatsApp, seems to show the elderly woman being dragged, kicked and humiliated in a fight inside a crowded compartment. Viewers were particularly enraged when they noticed that several passengers were recording videos and making reels instead of stepping in to stop the alleged assault.
Woman Allegedly Attacked Over Seat Row
Online reports suggest the fight may have been about seating or a compartment dispute. In the video footage, the accused staff member allegedly can be seen pulling the saree pallu of the woman while shouting aggressively before physically assaulting her.

The senior citizen apparently fell during the scuffle as other travellers looked on in silence. The disturbing visuals were quickly condemned by many, with users calling the incident “inhuman,” “shameful,” and “a complete collapse of public empathy.”
Railways respond to viral video
After widespread outrage, Indian Railways officials acknowledged the viral controversy and said the issue was under investigation. The railway authorities said strict action would be taken if the allegations against the staff member are proved. Officials are also understood to be verifying train details, identities of those involved and authenticity of the viral footage.
In the meantime, many users were calling for CCTV footage from the train and passenger statements to be reviewed immediately. The incident has led to a fresh debate about bystander behaviour in India, apart from the attack itself. A lot of users asked why the passengers decided to film reels and videos rather than help the elderly woman.
Activists and citizens on social media argued that the crowd’s silence was “equally disturbing,” saying society is becoming more and more desensitized to public violence.
