The various underwater creatures become entangled in the plastic debris and suffocate. similar to the fish being trapped in a plastic bag as seen in this video. Fortunately, a diver who saved the fish saved it from the dire consequences of the situation.

A Canadian activist named Mike Hudema re-posted the video that had previously been posted on The Pearl Protectors' Twitter account.The handle's biography states that the organisation is “Striving to protect Sri Lankan marine environment by raising awareness about the beauty of marine ecosystems & fostering passionate individuals.” Hudema wrote, “This Diver rescues a fish trapped in plastic. Countless marine animals get trapped in plastic waste we discard. Even the smallest plastic packaging is deadly underwater,” while retweeting the video.
