Viral Video: Rare Cat-Like Creature Spotted in Ladakh Goes Viral on Social Media; Twitterati Puzzled Over Species Identification

Viral Video: A video of a rare animal is making rounds on social media after Indian Forest Officer (IFS) Parveen Kaswan posted it on Twitter. The clip features a cat-like creature with peaked ears and a stocky build roaming around a town in Ladakh. The video has been credited to Sherine Fatima, the first female singer of the Balti community in Ladakh.

The short clip has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times and liked by more than 5,700 users. Mr Kaswan has started a guessing game, asking Twitter users to guess the name of the species. Some users have suggested it looks like a Puma or Cougar, while others have said it could be a Himalayan Lynx.

Twitter users guessing the name of the species

National Geographic states that lynxes are medium-sized, solitary wildcats that are native to the forests of North America, Europe, and Asia. Their reflective eyes and prominent tufts of hair above their ears are their defining features. They also have short, stubby tails.
