Viral Video: There are countless videos on the internet that show both the compassionate and barbaric sides of human nature. A video of a man and a woman torturing a puppy recently made headlines for being an instance of animal cruelty.

Video went viral

Awanish Sharan, an officer with the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), posted a video of the pair holding a stray puppy by its hind legs and swinging it around like a toy on Twitter. In order to frighten away some monkeys, the man held the puppy in front of them. They laughed and turned the puppy around. The caption asked, "Jaanwar kaun? (What animal is that?)"

People are expressing their rage

The moment the video was shared, it grabbed attention and led to a backlash on the website. Internet users vented their rage over animal cruelty in droves in the comments section. Some users wanted to know how the puppy was doing right now. Instead of posting the video online, one user advised the IAS to take action. Dog abuse by humans is nothing new. Several cases of animal abuse are occasionally reported. An image of a dog riding on top of a car was captured in a recent Bengaluru video. A similar video of a cat riding a bike appeared in Bengaluru a few days ago. Another recent incident involved a man who tied a stray dog to his motorcycle and drove around Gaya, Bihar, leaving the dog seriously hurt.
