In Japan, viral videos of customers licking and eating food directly from the Sushi conveyor belt have gone viral. This unhygienic prank has brought up massive criticism in Japan which is always known for its cleanliness.

Several videos dubbed 'sushi terrorism' have become a trend on social media, especially on Twitter and TikTok in recent days. In one of the most viewed videos, a teenage boy lick off the top of a communal soy sauce bottle directly from the conveyor belt.

In some other videos, customers were seen eating sushi directly from the belt and keeping the leftovers again on it. One of the videos was filmed at a branch of the Sushiro chain in Japan city of Gifu. Sushiro chain has also filed an official police complaint after the videos went viral.
Official apology
In a statement, Sushiro said the teen behind the viral video had apologised, along with his parents, but that the firm had filed a formal police complaint.
"As a company, we will continue to respond firmly with both criminal and civil cases," it said.
