Viral Video: A video of a train compartment in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar has surfaced, in which some people are seen offering Namaz. A new controversy has arisen after the video of offering Namaz in public went viral. State Police and Railway Protection Force have said that they are investigating the matter.
This video was shared by Deeplal Bharti, former BJP MLA from Kushinagar. It shows four Muslim men offering prayers in the corridor of the sleeper coach. The video is purportedly of the Satyagraha Express, which was shot when the train was halted at Khadda railway station.
A person sitting next can be heard asking the passengers to wait till the prayers are done.
Offering Namaz in public places has emerged as a matter of debate. Right-wing organizations allege that this causes trouble.
Earlier this year, there were protests in Haryana’s Gurugram over an open area earmarked for namaz. When Muslims were offering Namaz there, supporters of Hindu right-wing groups gathered and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The police had to intervene to prevent the ruckus from turning into a communal clash.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, last month, a video of a woman offering Namaz in a hospital went viral, which also sparked controversy. The police later issued a statement that she was praying for the recovery of one member of the family and was not causing trouble to anyone else. The police had said, ‘The offering of Namaz to a woman does not come under the category of any crime’.
