Agra Viral Video: Another religiously provocative video is coming out from the heart of India, Delhi. A simple claim to chant Jai Shri Ram gets a sharp refusal from a religiously rigid Muslim old man. This leads to a sharp polarisation over the internet between nationalism and terrorism. This viral video from Agra has eventually led the police to intervene to minimise public backlash.
Agra Viral Video: What Happened in Agra?
The viral video of the Muslim old man was shot near the Taj Mahal in Agra. The man recording the video stresses on the old man to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. But the rigid old man, named Mohammad Raees, directly refuses to do so. This instigated the Hindu man, and he started threatening the old man by saying that he would eventually say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in two or three days.
This Agra viral video shows that the heated argument immediately catches the religious sentiment of both communities. The right-wing leader Thakur Dharmendra Pratap Singh shared this video on his social media handle with the caption “This is the real terrorist”. This adds further fuel to the fire. While the Hindu community is supporting his views, the Muslims do not consider the same of Ram to prove their nationalism.
Public Outrage and Police Action: How Authorities Responded?
The growing outrage over the incident in Agra has prompted the intervention of local authorities. In response to the viral video, the Station House Officer of the Tajganj area stated, “The Station House Officer of Tajganj and the Cyber Cell have been directed to investigate and take necessary action.” The police have assured that they will identify the individuals involved and take appropriate legal steps.
The video, which shows a 64-year-old man being forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram,” has stirred up public sentiment. One commenter remarked, “This is just the government’s incompetence. Everyone has the right to practice their own religion. In this government, people are engaged in imposing religion on other communities. What need did this person have to make someone from another community chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’? This person is defaming Lord Ram. There are many kinds of people living in our country.”
Further intensifying the debate, another user tweeted, “@Uppolice @dgpup @UPGovt should take strict action against such anarchic elements who are violating the Constitution and challenging the law and order in Uttar Pradesh.”
The incident highlights the ongoing tension between religious communities and the role of social media in exacerbating these conflicts. Authorities have called for calm, urging people to act sensibly and not let online content escalate the situation further.
