Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, the passenger who went missing after a panic attack and assault onboard an IndiGo flight, has finally been found. The 32-year-old was located at a railway station in Barpeta, Assam, nearly 400 kilometres from where he was originally headed.
Mazumdar had travelled from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday and was supposed to board a connecting flight to Silchar to visit his father, who is undergoing cancer treatment. However, after reaching Kolkata, he did not board the next flight. Instead, he took a train, leaving his family and the authorities in confusion for nearly 24 hours.
IndiGo Flight Viral Video Stirs Public Outrage
The incident caught nationwide attention when a video went viral showing Mazumdar appearing visibly distressed inside IndiGo flight 6E-2387. As he was being escorted to his seat by airline staff, another passenger, Hafijul Rahman, suddenly slapped him. One crew member tried to de-escalate the situation, while another traveller stepped in to stop the aggression.
Rahman later told officials that Mazumdar “was causing problems.” He was briefly handed over to police at Kolkata airport but was released soon after.

Family\’s Desperate Search For Hossain Mazumdar
Back in Silchar, Mazumdar\’s family was waiting anxiously for his arrival. When he didn’t get off the flight, they began to worry. His uncle, Joglu Mazumder, shared, “His wife, brother and aunt went to the Silchar airport to pick him up and saw, in the meantime, the viral video… His phone was ringing, but he was not answering.”
The family registered a missing complaint and reached out to local police stations and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). With no proper information from the airline or airport authorities, the family’s concern deepened. His father, Abdul Mannan Mazumdar, expressed heartbreak: “He was working hard in Mumbai to support us… I saw the video this morning and now I don’t know where my son is.”
IndiGo Fight Viral Video: Airline’s Response
IndiGo issued a general statement on the incident via social media. It read, “We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation on board one of our flights… Our crew acted in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures.”
However, the airline did not provide any details about what steps were taken to ensure Mazumdar’s safety and mental health after the incident. This has raised serious concerns among travellers and mental health advocates about the lack of post-incident support for passengers in distress.
Zubairul Islam Mazumdar (a relative) voiced frustration: “We contacted the local authorities and even went to Udharband police station. But we received no concrete information about his whereabouts.”
Officials later confirmed that both Mazumdar and Rahman were allowed to leave the Kolkata airport after a meeting mediated by CISF personnel. Still, many are questioning why Mazumdar wasn’t given medical help or assistance to board his next flight.
