The person has been named as Cheeli Singaiah, 54, who lives in Vengalayapalem. He joined the crowd that was marching toward Rentapalli village, where Jagan was going to attend the opening of a statue and visit the family of a YSRCP worker who had died.
The video shows that Singaiah walked up to the convoy to lay a flower wreath. In the chaos, he slipped and fell in front of a moving car, which hit him and killed him. The convoy did not stop. People took him to Guntur Government Hospital, but the doctors there said he was dead.
During the same rally, 32-year-old P. Jayavardhan Reddy allegedly fell because of the crowd pressure and later died from his injuries. The protest had grown into an unmanageable crowd, which made people very worried about their safety.
Police have found the car that was involved in the accident. Its license plate number is AP 26 CE 0001. Guntur SP S. Satish Kumar and DIG Sarvashresta Tripathi are in charge of the investigations. Reports say that the group had more than 30 cars, which is a lot more than what is allowed.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has strongly spoken out against what happened. Leaders Anagani Satya Prasad and Gottipati Ravi Kumar slammed Jagan for "not caring about the lives of his own supporters" and demanded that he be held responsible right away.
The family of Singaiah wants justice and a full investigation. Once the investigation is over, the government has promised to take strict action. They are now looking over the rules for VIP convoys and public safety at political events.
