And a similar incident has recently happened, where Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai has been criticized by netizens, after the poster of her documentary film ‘Kaali‘ was released. Where In the poster shared by the filmmaker, Maa Kali is shown smoking a cigarette. Apart from this, she has a trident in one hand and the flag of the LGBT community pride flag in other.

What’s next? Leena Manimekalai has been trending ever since the poster surfaced. Well, this is not the first time when a poster or a film has received flak for being hinduphobic. Not to forget, In the past films like ‘Bulbbul’ and ‘PaatalLok’ has received that continuous bashing for similar reasons.
The poster was launched at the Aga Khan Museum in Canada. And Sharing the poster on Instagram , the director further wrote, ”Super Thrilled to share the launch of my recent film today at Aga Khan Museum. a 6-minute excerpt of the film, ”Kaali” will be shown today as part of Aga Khan Museum’s ”Rhythms of Canada”, a week-long festival celebrating the diverse tapestry of Canadian Culture.”
One of the Twitter reactions read- “This is blasphemy and hurts Hindu religious sentiment,” and further begged the Canadian Museum to remove the movie.
Other Twitter user wrote, “If insulting Hindus Gods come under freedom of expression then why not insulting Mohammed?”
“Every day Hindu religion is mocked, is government, testing our patience??,” wrote another Twitter user.
The maker’s reaction
After the controversy, Leena issued a statement and clarified her stand. She further appealed the audience to choose ‘love over hate’ and somehow believed that these kind of reactions that she is receiving actually showcases on how India Is heading into the ‘darkest hole’.
