In the video, Nitish Kumar can be seen casually placing a flower pot (गमला) on S. Siddhartha’s head, seemingly in jest. The officer stood still, appearing awkward and confused, while others nearby attempted to defuse the situation with laughter and subtle intervention.
The video spread rapidly on X (formerly Twitter) and WhatsApp, with users questioning the Chief Minister’s intent and state of mind.
While some called it a harmless, quirky moment, others criticised it as undignified behavior toward a high-ranking official.
S. Siddhartha is a senior IAS officer and currently serves as the Additional Chief Secretary in Bihar. He has held several key portfolios and is known for his professionalism and composed demeanor.
The incident has sparked a flurry of memes and sarcastic posts online. Critics of the Bihar government raised concerns over Nitish Kumar’s conduct, calling it “inappropriate for a constitutional office”, while supporters downplayed the issue, claiming it was done in a light-hearted manner.
Some opposition leaders demanded a clarification, stating that such actions could demoralize the bureaucratic machinery.
