As tensions de-escalate along the India-Pakistan border after days of crossfire, a new controversy brews online. Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi is once again in the spotlight—not for his batting, but for leading a public rally in Karachi, celebrating what is being claimed as “Pakistan’s victory” following the recent ceasefire.

The video, shared by journalist Maham Gillani, shows Afridi marching alongside crowds waving Pakistani flags and shouting pro-army slogans.
“Shahid Afridi leads a rally in Karachi to celebrate Pakistan's victory. Boom Boom in support of Pakistan Army,” Maham tweeted.
Afridi’s viral video immediately sparked backlash, especially from Indian users and neutral observers questioning the celebratory tone. The internet wasted no time pointing to Pakistan’s actual losses following the Pahalgam misadventure:
12 Air Bases Neutralized
9 Terror Camps Destroyed
5 Fighter Jets Downed
40 Military Personnel Lost
Air Defence Systems Disabled
“Which victory? Losing 12 air bases, 9 terror camps, 5 air jets, 40 personnel... air defence... Begging for ceasefire is victory???”
The tweet racked up thousands of likes and shares, exposing the gap between street-level narratives and military realities.
While Afridi’s supporters hailed his public show of patriotism, critics accused him of fueling denial and misinformation. Another Twitter user, @HarshTyagi, remarked:
“B* jeet ka jashn mana rahe aur India ne jo foda hai uska dhua piche video me dikh raha hai.”
Analysts see the rally as part of a broader attempt to shape public perception inside Pakistan despite serious losses on the ground and growing international isolation.
As the dust settles along the LoC, the battle for narratives continues online. For now, while calm may have returned to Rajouri, the war of perception remains in full swing.
