Viral Video: A video of a baby elephant snuggling up to his human friend is making the rounds on the internet. After a tiring day, nothing is better than cuddles from a furry friend. This heartwarming video was first posted by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust on Twitter, then reposted by Twitter user @buitengebieden where it racked up over 2.7 million views and more than 10,000 retweets.
Elephants Like Cuddles Too
In the viral video, the cute baby elephant starts by stuffing his trunk into the worker’s neck out of love, and then the calf happily collapses on the worker’s legs, its trunk wagging like a tail and its legs kicking back and forth in joy.
The viral video is from an orphan elephant rescue and wildlife rehabilitation centre called The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. Knowing that this calf is probably an orphan makes the video that much sweeter, as we can see he or she is loved and safe.
Elephants and humans have ‘unique bond’. In fact, researchers from the University of St Andrews have found that African elephants seem to have an instinctive understanding of what it means when a human points to something.
People naturally reacted with hearts in their eyes, in awe of this bond between a wild animal and a human. One user even commented with another video in which a baby elephant is attempting to get on the back of a worker for a piggyback ride!
Another user said, “Elephants have a sense of who loves them. One of the prerequisites of some shelters is that the ellies show an affinity for the human carer. This man would be top of the list, I think!”
