Viral Video: A Karnataka man's funny take on financial advice has gone viral on social media. Content creator Shrinidhi Hande shared a humorous video on Instagram on July 23, right after the Union Budget 2024 announcement. Hande playsfully explains in the video that salaried people can get a 100% income tax savings by "growing and selling grass to their employers."

Hande’s video has quickly gone viral, racking up over 2 million views on Instagram and also gaining traction on X, thanks to chartered accountant Akhil Pachori who shared it. The video has left social media users in splits, with many laughing out loud at the quirky advice.
"In this video, I will tell you how to save 100 per cent on income tax," Hande begins, detailing his "very easy, legal and simple process."
"First, you need to grow grass in your home, on your balcony, or on your terrace. This is completely legal," Hande explains.
Hande then suggests making an unusual request to your HR department. "Tell them you don’t want any salary. Instead, ask your company to buy grass from you equivalent to your salary. For instance, if your salary is Rs 50,000, they can buy 50 strands of grass for Rs 1,000 each."
Hande highlights the logic behind this advice, stating, "This way, your salary income becomes zero, and your income from selling agricultural produce, which is not taxable in India, takes its place. This way, you save 100% on income tax, with no worries about TDS or investments."
The video’s virality has sparked a wave of reactions from netizens. One user commented, "What an idea sir ji," while another remarked, "Indians really do have a jugad for everything." A third user humorously questioned, "Is this an insult to the salaried class people?" followed by laughing emojis.
In the Union Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revamped income tax slabs under the new regime to make it more appealing. Additionally, the standard deduction limit was increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000, offering a substantial relief of Rs 25,000.
