Two distinct cloudburst events that occurred on Thursday caused severe damage and inconvenience to the Himachal Pradesh districts of Shimla and Mandi. Two persons lost their lives as a result of the cloudbursts, while numerous others went missing. Additionally, the cloudbursts severely damaged infrastructure and property.

In Shimla, a cloudburst in the Samej Khad area of Rampur has led to the disappearance of 36 people. Meanwhile, in Mandi, 8 people are reported missing, and rescue teams have recovered two bodies. One person has been injured in the incident.
The devastating news was confirmed by Himachal Pradesh Minister Jagat Singh Negi, who said that eight persons are missing from the Tikan region of Mandi and 36 people are missing from the Samej district of Shimla. The Minister also brought up the collapse of the Malana power project's barrage in Kullu, which has left many people stuck and interfered with traffic flow. He emphasised that numerous bridges are reportedly damaged, and the Chief Minister has convened an emergency meeting to address the situation.
Earlier, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap had informed that 19 people were missing following the cloudburst in the Samej Khad area of Rampur. He added that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team had been dispatched to the site to aid in the rescue operations.
