Viral Video: What is supposed to be a regular Uber ride turns out to be another controversy around Indians abroad. This time, the conflict arose between two females, one Indian and one foreigner; one is the passenger, and the other is the driver.
While the passenger demands reasons for a ride cancellation, the driver records it. This leads to a shocking slap, leaving everyone wondering what is going wrong with Indians abroad.
What Triggered the Indian Woman’s Anger in the Viral Video?
The viral video starts as the foreign Uber driver decides to switch on her phone and record her Indian passenger. The viral clip, as shared by Shonee Kapoor, shows two Indian ladies, probably mother and daughter, coming out of an Uber cab. The elder lady came out clearly disappointed with the female Uber driver capturing them. She said, “You can video record me, it is okay to do that, that’s fine, that’s your right, you cannot cancel a ride after making us wait for 10 minutes”.
To this, the Uber driver argues that she was present at the pickup location. But the passenger clarifies that the driver was not present in the pickup location and deliberately cancelled the ride. But in a shocking turn of events, she slaps and snatches the phone, recording her till now.
Why do Many Indians Face Growing Stress in Foreign Countries?
This viral video once again sparks the debate about whether Indians are intentionally getting harassed abroad. It is clear from the viral clip that both parties are clearly irritated with one another. Whether the Uber driver’s sudden cancellation of the ride was intentional or not is not known. But the incident clearly adds to the ongoing conflict and rising hatred against Indians in Western countries.
From Australia to Ireland, Indian NRIs are complaining about racial discrimination and assaults. Recently, the Irish government has finally made the first arrest for racist attacks against the Indian Amazon employee in Tallaght, Dublin. In contrast, the anti-immigration protests are rising high in the US and Australia.
Experts Explain Rising Emotional Burnout Among Foreigners for Indians
Experts suggest that the rising tension against Indians comes due to a mix of occupational and social factors. Mainly, the foreigners are insecure with Indians taking up their jobs and educational facilities. Besides the fear of losing their cultural dominance, an inherent support for racism can lead to such discriminatory behaviour. Donald Trump’s visa policies and changing attitude towards Indians can also fuel such random Indian hatred indirectly.
Whether the female Uber driver tries to add her part in this discrimination or if it is purely a misunderstanding is still unknown. However, the viral video is once again fuelling the ongoing racial conflicts between Indians and foreigners.
