Viral Video: Rajan Singh, a guy from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the police after the video of him went viral showing the guy casting vote for BJP candidate eight times. The event received a lot of media coverage and condemnation from different opposition figures.

Viral Video Sparks Outrage

The video, which shows Rajan Singh voting multiple times for BJP candidate Mukesh Rajput on an EVM, quickly went viral. Prominent opposition figures, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, shared the clip on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), calling for action.

Akhilesh Yadav condemned the act, urging the Election Commission to take serious measures. He remarked, “If the Election Commission feels that this is wrong then it must take some action. Otherwise, the BJP’s booth committee is actually a loot committee.”

Rahul Gandhi’s Strong Reaction

Rahul Gandhi also weighed in on the controversy and said, “Seeing its defeat in front of it, BJP wants to loot democracy by pressurising the government machinery to deny the mandate. Congress expects from all the officers performing election duty that they should not forget their constitutional responsibility under the pressure of power. Otherwise, as soon as the Indian government is formed, such action will be taken that anyone will think 10 times before insulting the Oath of the Constitution.”

ECI’s Response and Legal Action

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinwa, responded to the uproar by confirming that a formal complaint had been filed at the Nayagaon police station in the Etah district. Rinwa said that re-election at the impacted polling place had been suggested to the Election Commission of India (ECI) following Rajan Singh’s arrest. Additionally, all participating polling party members are the subject of disciplinary actions.
