Nepal’s President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday conferred the honorary title of General Rank of the Nepalese Army to MM Narwane, Chief General of the Indian Army. This tradition continues for the last several years. General MM Narwane will meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday. The Chief of the Indian Army has arrived there on a three-day visit to Nepal.
Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane met his Nepalese counterpart General Purna Chandra Thapa and discussed ways to further deepen the existing relations of cooperation and friendship between the two armies.
The army chief is on a tour amid the Indo-Nepal dispute. Before leaving for the tour, the army chief thanked the Prime Minister of Nepal KP Oli. During this time, he had said that the visit will strengthen the relationship between the two countries. Not only this, he said that he was happy with the invitation received by the Nepal Army Chief for the tour. According to media reports, during his visit, he will address the students at the Army Army Commander and Staff College in Nepal.
There has been tension between Nepal and India since May this year. In such a situation, General Narwane’s visit to Nepal is considered very important. During the tension, Narwane had said that Nepal is not raising the issue of border dispute at the instigation of another country. Nepal is questioning the Indian road built between Manasarovar to Lipulekh. During this time Nepal objected to this statement of the army chief.
