The Nobel Prize for Literature has been awarded to Louise Glück.

Literature Laureate Louise Glück made her debut in writing in 1968 with ‘Firstborn’ and then she was acclaimed as one of the most prominent poets in American contemporary literature. Louise has published twelve collections of poetry and some volumes of essays on poetry.

The Nobel Prize twitter post wrote: “The 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to the American poet Louise Glück “for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal.”

She Born in New York City on April 22, 1943, Louise Glück is the daughter of Daniel and Beatrice Glück. She enrolled in a poetry workshop where poet and teacher Stanley Kunitz significantly influenced her. In 1966 Louise won the Academy of American Poets Prize.

“All are characterized by striving for clarity. Childhood and family life, the close relationship with parents and siblings is a [theme] that has remained central to her,” Anders Olsson, the chairman of the Nobel Committee for Literature, said.

“She seeks the universal, and in this she takes inspiration from myths and Classical motifs,” Olsson added.
