Thailand Cambodia War : Thai F-16 Fighter Jet Bombs Targets in Cambodia Amid Escalating Border Tensions, Reports

A Thai F-16 fighter jet launched airstrikes on targets inside Cambodia, escalating weeks-long tensions over a disputed border area into violent conflict, according to a Reuters report. Both Thai and Cambodian authorities have confirmed the incident.

The airstrike marks a serious escalation in a territorial dispute that has been simmering for weeks. The confrontation has already resulted in the deaths of at least two civilians, and fears are growing of a broader military conflict.

Thai and Cambodian Officials Confirm Incident

Thai defense sources said the airstrike was in response to “provocative activities” by Cambodian forces near the contested border zone. Cambodia’s government, meanwhile, has condemned the strike as an “act of aggression” and called for immediate international intervention.

A Cambodian military spokesperson said,

“The attack is a violation of our sovereignty and puts civilian lives at risk. We demand accountability and de-escalation.”

Thai authorities, however, claim their actions were defensive in nature and targeted only military installations suspected of threatening Thai positions.

Regional and International Response Expected

The incident is expected to draw international attention, particularly from ASEAN nations and the United Nations, as tensions between the two Southeast Asian neighbors risk spiraling into a broader conflict.

The disputed territory lies near a historically sensitive border area that has seen previous military standoffs, including one in 2008 near the Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Casualties and Civilian Concerns

While exact casualty figures remain unclear, at least two civilian deaths have been reported, and dozens of families in border villages are said to be evacuating. Local humanitarian organizations have expressed concern over potential displacement and the need for urgent relief support.

Further developments are awaited as both countries hold internal security meetings. Diplomatic backchannels have reportedly been activated to seek de-escalation before the situation worsens.
