Costa Rica became the first country in Central America to recognize same-sex marriages by the ruling of the Supreme Court in 2020.

South Africa became the first country in Africa and the fifth in the world to legalize sam-sex marriages in 2006.

Columbia enjoys freedom in terms of marriage equality since 2016. It was the fourth country to rule in the favor of same-sex marriages in South America.
