10 tips to safely take your pet for a car ride

1. When driving, keep your pet in a restrained space. If your dog is jumping around the car while you're driving, neither you nor them will be safe.

2. Before you leave for a long drive, take your dog on a few small journeys to help them become used to travelling in the car.

3. A light dinner should be given to your pet three to four hours before you go.

4. Your dog should never be left alone in a parked car.

5. Put together a pet travel pack. Don't forget to include your pet's medical records, which should include confirmation of current vaccinations.

6. In addition to having a microchip, make sure your pet is wearing a collar that has an ID tag showing your home address and mobile number.
