Neeraj Chopra's road to silver medal at World Athletics Championships

This medal made Neeraj Chopra a household name. A throw of 87.58m ensured the gold for Neeraj in a tough field. By Tokyo 2020, Neeraj had already become India's best in the sport.

But his journey to stardom just began. The gold medal was followed by the star athlete attending many events and could join the training only by start of December.

After six months of rigorous training, Neeraj started his season at the Paavo Nurmi Gaes, where he threw 89.30m to break his national record.

The conditions here were difficult as the runway was slippery due to the rain. Neeraj once slipped to but still managed to clinch the gold with a throw of 86.69m.

And within a month's time, Neeraj was at it again, throwing an impressive 89.94m at the Diamond League to finish second.

That was brilliant from Neeraj. He threw 88.39m in the qualifiers to seal the spot in the men's javelin final with just the first throw and did not return to throw again.

It did not look possible when Neeraj Chopra started off with a wrong throw. He then returned with poor numbers, throwing just over 82m in his second attempt before he made a strong comeback with a throw of 86.37m
