Raangoli

Raangoli is the term used in Maharashtra (Rang meaning color, Avalli meaning creepers/rows). Raangoli therefore refers to rows of colors.

Aripana

It is called Aripana in Bihar, which translates to "smear." It is a style of Mithila art that came from Madhubani village.

It is referred to as Kolam in Tamil Nadu. Paddi denotes a line. A particular type of rice is the source of the name Kolam.

The name Chowkpurana is used in states in northern India. The space between a road intersection is referred to as a chowk.

It is referred to as Gahuli-Sathiya in the Gujrati and Jain communities. The Rangoli pattern resembles an exquisite maze puzzle.
