BJP Breaks 35-Year Jinx, Yogi Govt Set for 2nd Term With 250+ Seats; Comfort for Akhilesh; Wipe-Out for BSP, Cong

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath won Gorakhpur Urban assembly seat by a huge margin of over one lakh votes against his nearest rival Subhawati Upendra Dutt Shukla of Samajwadi Party.

Yogi Aditynath got over 65 per cent of votes as ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heads towards a big win in Uttar Pradesh.

As per the latest trends, BJP was leading on over 266 seats, followed by SP (132 seats), while Congress and BSP were leading on 1 and two seats respectively.

Adityanath is also the mahant or head priest of the Gorakhnath Math, a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur, a position he has held since the death of his spiritual "father", Mahant Avaidyanath, in September 2014.

He is also the founder of Hindu Yuva Vahini, a Hindu nationalist organisation. He has an image of a Hindutva nationalist and a right-wing populist.

I thank the people of UP for the decisive mandate. Today people have completely rejected all the negative campaigns: Yogi Adityanath
