10 killed in mass stabbing in Canada, suspects on the loose

New Delhi: A string of stabbing attacks in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan have left at least 10 people dead and 15 others hospitalised, as per police. Two suspects were still on the loose Sunday evening, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.

The stabbings took place in 13 different places, including the village of Weldon and the James Smith Cree Nation.

Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30, are wanted in connection with the stabbings, according to the RCMP. According to reports, Damien Sanderson is a 5’7 “and approximately 155 pounds in weight. 6’1” according to the police, Myles Sanderson “200 pounds, approximately. They might be operating a black Nissan Rogue, according to police.

The stabbings across 13 crime scenes were among the deadliest mass killings in modern Canadian history and certain to reverberate throughout the country, which is unaccustomed to bouts of mass violence more commonly seen in the United States.

“The attacks in Saskatchewan today are horrific and heartbreaking. I’m thinking of those who have lost a loved one and of those who were injured,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a message posted on Twitter.

Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30, were identified as the two suspects by police, who also provided photos and descriptions of them, but no other information about their whereabouts or the victims.

“It appears that some of the victims may have been targeted, and some may be random. So to speak to a motive would be extremely difficult at this point in time,” Rhonda Blackmore, commanding officer of the Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police, told a news conference.
