Ukrainian officials said early on Monday that five people had been hurt as a result of Russian airstrikes on Kyiv and other areas of Ukraine, and that one of the attacks also caused a food warehouse in the Black Sea city of Odesa to catch fire.
As Russia prepared to commemorate Victory Day, the anniversary of its victory over Nazi Germany, the attack happened. According to Reuters, Russian President Vladimir Putin invoked the former Soviet army’s victory against Nazi German forces to defend Moscow’s invasion of its neighbour and claim that it was carried out to “de-Nazify” Ukraine.
Three persons suffered injuries in blasts in the Solomyanskyi area, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, while two others were killed when drone debris fell on them in the Sviatoshyn district, both of which are located west of the capital’s core.
Emergency services were in action at Zhuliany airport when drone debris landed on an airport runway, according to Kyiv’s military administration. However, there were no fire reports.
In Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi neighbourhood, a two-story structure appears to have been damaged by drone debris. The administration stated that it was unclear whether there were any casualties or not.
