The condition of corona infection in China has become very dire and according to estimates, about 900 million people have been infected with the corona virus so far.

According to a study by Beijing University, about 900 million people have been infected in China as of January 11, and 64 percent of the country’s population has the virus. The study reported that 91 per cent of people in China’s Gansu province are reported to be infected, followed by Yunnan (84 per cent) and Qinghai (80 per cent). A top Chinese epidemiologist has also warned that cases in rural China will increase during the new year.
Corona wave
Zeng Guang, former head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control, has said that the peak of the corona wave in China is likely to last for two to three months. January 23 is the Lunar New Year in China. Millions of Chinese will travel to their hometowns during this festival holiday. In such a situation, the corona infection will also reach those areas which were safe till now. The Lunar New Year holidays in China, which officially begin on January 21, include the world’s largest annual migration. These holidays are expected to take a total of nearly two billion trips and millions have already traveled.
No official count
China has stopped giving daily corona figures after abandoning the zero-corona policy. China’s central Henan province is the only province that has given details of the infection rate. Earlier this month, a health official there said that about 90 percent of the population had corona. Similar infection rates were observed in urban and rural areas of the province.
However, government officials say that many provinces and cities have passed the peak of infection. In December, Chinese officials said they planned to issue monthly, rather than daily, updates on the situation in the country. The World Health Organization has said that China was underreporting deaths from Corona.In response, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that Beijing has been sharing corona data in a timely, open and transparent manner in accordance with the law after conducting technical exchanges with the WHO in the past.
International health experts predict at least a million deaths in China this year. Beijing has officially reported just over 5,000 deaths since the pandemic began, one of the lowest death rates in the world.
