At least one person was killed after unidentified criminals launched an attack on the Cox’s Bazar Air Force base in Bangladesh on Monday, the military confirmed.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old local trader Shihab Kabir, reportedly sustained gunshot injuries and was declared "brought dead" at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital. Medical sources revealed that he had suffered deep injuries to the back of his head.
Attack Linked to Land Dispute
According to reports, the attack occurred just hours after a land dispute broke out between Air Force personnel and local residents. The disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation, with locals throwing stones, leading to injuries on both sides. However, authorities have not specified the number of injured individuals.
Military Response and Investigation
In a brief statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Bangladesh Armed Forces confirmed the attack and stated that the Bangladesh Air Force was taking necessary measures to handle the situation.
Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin assured that an investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the incident, and strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.
Security Tightened to Prevent Further Violence
As tensions remain high, security has been intensified in the area to prevent further escalation. Officials warned that the death toll may rise as authorities continue to assess the situation.
The attack has raised concerns over the growing law-and-order situation in Bangladesh, with critics drawing parallels to increasing instability in the region.
