Yunus Government Under Fire for Failure to Protect Minorities
This incident has compounded the criticism directed towards Muhammad Yunus. Since taking power, the situation for Hindus has deteriorated, with increased atrocities exposing an appalling decline in law and order. Rights activists accuse the Yunus government of doing nothing to stop the spiraling violence based on religious identity, despite the frequent reporting of similar incidents.
A Pattern of Targeted Attacks
The circumstances surrounding this case of rape are not unique. Several recent attacks indicate an emerging and alarming pattern.
In March 2025, a priest at the ISKCON temple in Narail was assaulted by unidentified miscreants.
Earlier this year, according to reports, a prominent Durga temple was bulldozed while the land was being cleared by the government, provoking a strong reaction from Hindu communities.
After rumors of blasphemy, over 200 Hindu houses and temples were attacked in multiple districts.
Diplomatic Response & Minority Anxiety
The event has taken a global spotlight. India's Ministry of External Affairs has implored Bangladesh to protect the safety of its religious minorities.
Local Hindu community leaders warn that violence creates further incitement and fear in minorities and demand stronger protection from their governments.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party's answer is likely to change the political conversation and could lead to future fights between parties.
