Brahmos Missile: Supplies of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles from India to the Philippines, as part of a USD 375 million deal between the two nations, continue to progress smoothly, according to defence officials.

The latest batch of the missile system supplies arrived at an air base in Manila from India, transported via a chartered Ilyushin-76 transport aircraft on Sunday.

Officials from both India and the Philippines are overseeing the reception of the initial batch of equipment supplied under the contract.

India had previously delivered the first lot of supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines

India had previously delivered the first lot of supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines on April 19, as per the agreement signed in 2022.

For the delivery, the Indian Air Force utilized its C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft to transport the missiles to the Philippines’ Marine Corps, in a demonstration of bilateral cooperation.

Ground systems accompanying the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system, along with the missiles, were also exported last month.

The timing of the delivery is significant as the Philippines faces heightened tensions with China, particularly in the South China Sea region, where clashes have been frequent. The deployment of three batteries of the BrahMos missile system by the Philippines in coastal areas is aimed at bolstering their defense capabilities against potential threats in the region.
