Chinese spy base in Cuba since 2019, says US official; Beijing says it is slander

China : A United States official says China has been running a spy base in Cuba and upgraded it in 2019, according to India Today.This official was speaking to the media on conditions of anonymity.
Quoting AFP, India Today says the official said, "This is well-documented in the intelligence record." The official, a top functionary in the Biden administration, went on to say that the government has made some progress to limit Chinese espionage through diplomacy and other means.
Beijing says the report claiming it has a spy base in Cuba, is slander.
Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio said, "Slanderous speculation continues, evidently promoted by certain media outlets to cause damage and alarm, without following minimal communication patterns, and without providing data or evidence to support what they spread."

Report inaccurate, says the US

John Kirby, White House spokesman for the National Security Council says the report is inaccurate. He didn’t specify what parts of this report are incorrect.
In an interview with MSNBC, Kirby said, “I’ve seen that press report, it’s not accurate.”
The unnamed U.S. official revealed: "We were briefed on a number of sensitive PRC efforts around the world when President Joe Biden took office in January 2021 to expand its overseas logistics, basing, and collection infrastructure globally."

Charges and countercharges

Beijing says the U.S. is using Taiwan as a listening post to eavesdrop on China. Taiwan is nearly 100 miles from China.Beijing also accuses Washington of endangering peace in the Taiwan Strait by conducting military drills.The U.S., on the other hand, charges Beijing of threatening the former’s vessels in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea.
This week, Anthony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, travels to China to discuss various bilateral issues.
