COP27: At the COP27 UN climate summit in Egypt on Monday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres raised the alarm that the world was on a highway to climatic hell. Global leaders must take immediate action to combat climate change, the UN head cautioned, adding that “our planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible."
Antonio Guterres stated, “We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator. Our planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible. We need urgent Climate Action”.

In order to address climate change, the UN head emphasised the necessity for a "clear, time-bound strategy."
“The impacts of climate change are here now, and the loss and damage they cause can no longer be ignored. COP27 must agree on a clear, time-bound roadmap reflective of the scale and urgency of the challenge. It's a moral imperative and a question of solidarity and climate justice,” he added.

He demanded a new agreement between wealthy and developing nations to cooperate more closely, including financial assistance and the phase-out of coal in wealthy countries by 2030 and elsewhere by 2040. He urged China and the United States, the two countries that create the most emissions that contribute to global warming, to collaborate more on climate issues than they have in recent years.
Guterres added, "Humanity has a choice: cooperate or perish. "It's either a Collective Suicide Pact or a Climate Solidarity Pact."
World leaders will take the stage at the COP27 UN climate summit this year to discuss a growing issue that scientists have dubbed the largest challenge facing the planet.
The world leaders are anticipated to address a range of pressing challenges, including the energy crisis brought on by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, droughts in Africa, and floods in Pakistan.
"Is it not high time to put a stop to all this suffering?" asks El-Sisi
The globe has become a world of agony, said the summit's host, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, "Is it not high time to put a stop to all this suffering?"
“Climate change will never stop without our intervention… Our time here is limited and we must use every second that we have,” El-Sisi continued.

The summit is being attended by a large number of African leaders
Mohammed Adow of Power Shift Africa said, "The past polluters who caused climate change are not showing up. “Africa is the least responsible, the most vulnerable to the issue of climate change and it is a continent that is stepping up and providing leadership.”
The Associated Press cited Adow as saying, “the South is actually stepping up,the North that historically caused the problem is failing.”
