Covid-19: UN Security Council to talk over post-pandemic global governance

The global coronavirus pandemic has affected the world in an abysmal manner, the current conditions all over the globe is quite concerning and the same goes for the stability and governance across the world. But as we focus on present and look beyond this crisis, the path forward seems more strenuous.

The same concern is in focus of all the world leaders and the UN Security Council about how as a global family we are going to continue the governance. In the same direction, UN Security Council will coordinate a video conference between heads of state to discuss the near and distant future of global governance after the pandemic. The same was stated by Niger, current president of UN Security Council on Tuesday, the conference will be hosted on September 24.

The prime focus of the summit debate will be the post Covid-19 global governance and how to maintain the international peace and security, Niger’s UN Ambassador Abdou Abarry told journalists while presenting the Council’s program for the month.

The session will commence during the annual UN General Assembly gathering of the world leaders, which is first time history will be taking place by video-conference in midst of pandemic.

“This will be an opportunity for our leaders to have political discussions on the need to adapt the current international system embodied by the United Nations and the Security Council in order to effectively face traditional threats to security such as conflicts, but also new threats such as organized crime and pandemics,” Abarry said.
