On the Dalai Lama's 90th birthday, thousands of Tibetan Buddhists and supporters from around the world met in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala. At the Tsuglagkhang Temple, a ceremony for long life prayer was held in honour of the respected spiritual leader. Monks, devotees, Indian officials, and guests from around the world, including Hollywood star Richard Gere, paid their respects.

The Dalai Lama's Message: Legacy and Coming Back to Life

The Dalai Lama said in a very spiritual speech that only his Gaden Phodrang Trust would be able to recognise his rebirth. He said he hoped to live past 130 years and promised that the institution of the Dalai Lama would continue, even though China was meddling in it.

A Sign of Peace: PM Modi's Birthday Wishes

On X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a touching message: "Happy 90th birthday to His Holiness the @DalaiLama!" He will always be a sign of love, kindness, patience, and morality. People of all religions and cultures look up to him.

Political Waves: How China Reacted and Support Around the World

The birthday party happened while there was a new fight over who would be king. China said again that it is the only one who can choose the next Dalai Lama, bringing up the controversial case of the Panchen Lama's kidnapping in 1995. At the same time, both the U.S. and Indian governments said again that they wanted to protect Tibetan religious freedom.

A Call for Kindness and Unity

In a statement, the Central Tibetan Administration called the Dalai Lama "a beacon of world peace." In line with His Holiness's lifelong goal of nonviolence and spiritual education, they called for kindness to be the theme of the coming year.
