Daughter of Afghan envoy in Pakistan abducted and tortured

Daughter of Najibullah Alikhil, the Afghan ambassador in Pakistan, was kidnapped and tortured before being released by unknown abductors. She has since been released, and is receiving treatment in a hospital.

Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its “deep regret”. The ministry said it “strongly condemns this heinous act”. The Afghan foreign ministry expressed its “deep concern over the safety and security of diplomats, their families, and staff members of the Afghan political and consular missions in Pakistan.”

The Afghan foreign ministry has said that Silsila Alikhil, daughter of the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad was abducted on July 16 while on her way home in the Pakistani capital.

The 27-year-old went missing at around 2.30 PM local time near House 35, Street 13 F7/2 near Rana Market. Her shoes & mobile phone are missing.

Afghan Govt is following the matter with Pak govt & has urged Islamabad to “identify and prosecute” the perpetrators at the soonest possible time.

The abduction came hours after Afghan President Ashraf Ghani lashed out at Islamabad, saying that it had not severed its relationship with terror groups.

Ghani said that despite repeated assurances by PM Imran Khan and his Generals that Pakistan does not find a Taliban takeover in Afghanistan in their interest, Taliban-backing organizations are openly celebrating the destruction of the capabilities of the Afghan people and nation.

He also claimed that over 10,000 ‘jihadi’ fighters had entered Afghanistan in the last month.
