Diogo Jota, Brother No More ! Just Married Liverpool Footballer Dies in Car Crash

Diogo Jota, Liverpool’s Portuguese footballer, and his brother André da Silva died in a car accident in Spain on July 3, 2025. A tire burst caused their Lamborghini to crash and catch fire. Tributes pour in from around the football world.

Football player Diogo Jota, 28, from Liverpool and Portugal, died in a terrible car accident on July 3, 2025.  The accident also killed his 26-year-old brother, André Filipe da Silva.

It happened around 12:30 AM on the A-52 highway in Zamora province, Spain, near Palacios de Sanabria.  They lost control of their Lamborghini while passing another car, went off-road, and caught fire right away, according to reports from the Spanish Civil Guard.  At the scene, emergency workers pronounced both guys dead.

Exactly who were the victims?

The talented, quick, and adaptable Diogo Jota was a key forward for Liverpool.  In 182 games since joining Liverpool from Wolves in 2020, he has scored 65 goals.

In addition to being Jota's brother, André Filipe da Silva also played professional football for F.C. Penafiel in Portugal's Liga Portugal 2.

Just Married: Jota's Private Life

Diogo Jota married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso on June 22, 2025, just ten days before the catastrophe.  The couple had three kids together.  A couple of days before the accident, a video from their wedding went viral.

Football Career and Accomplishments

Jota started his career at Paços de Ferreira and later played for Atlético Madrid, FC Porto,

and Wolverhampton Wanderers.  He was on Liverpool's winning team that won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup in 2024–25.

Portugal's 49th-best player, Jota, scored 14 goals in 49 appearances and helped the team win the UEFA Nations League in both 2019 and 2025.

Sincere sympathies were sent from Liverpool FC, Wolves, FC Porto, and the Portuguese Football Federation.

Investigation Started

The forensic unit in Zamora has received the bodies of the dead for examination.  Meanwhile, the authorities are still looking into what caused the crash.
